Costs (approximately):
- ATMEGA328P: $2
- breadboard with 5V adapter and wires: $4
- 16 MHz crystal oscillator: $1 (10 pcs)
- all kinds of resistors: $1.50
- all kinds of capacitors: $1.50
- optional: push button (20 pcs): $1
- FT232RL for programming: $2
Overall, it costs $13 to build and use an Arduino, and you have lots of resistors and capacitors for the projects. Costs even less if you decide to build more. I took this cheap way back then, my current boards look like this:
